In brief
The interplay of large groups is a central element of Stephanie Lake’s work Colossus. This internationally acclaimed dance performance will enjoy its Semperoper premiere as part of the dance evening Wings and Feathers. Bringing together dancers from the Semperoper Ballett and the Palucca University of Dance, it will simultaneously celebrate the anniversaries of both institutions.
With Kolossus Kids, Stephanie Lake’s creative team is developing a version “based on the structures and images of the complex original choreography Colossus, but which will also have its own strong and intense concentration,” according to the choreographer herself. In addition to students of the Palucca University of Dance Dresden, the project will also give young dancers from the Heinrich Schütz Conservatory and PUCK e.V. the opportunity to experience Stephanie Lake’s integrative work process. The choreographer, who is based in Australia, sees it as a fantastic opportunity for youngsters to not only take part in this artistic project themselves, but above all to meet other young people they would otherwise never encounter in their everyday lives. The creative project is intended to become a major platform open to all. This is dance that moves both body and mind, whether you are a participant or an audience member!
The piece, which the youngsters aged between twelve and 16 will develop together with the artistic team, will be presented at several performances in Semper Zwei. Classes interested in dance can contact Semperoper Aktiv! about workshops on both versions of Colossus entitled YOUth Moves.
