Born in Dala-Järna, Sweden, Erik Västhed studied at The Royal Swedish Ballet School in Stockholm. Afterwards, he worked as a dancer with various dance companies in Sweden, Denmark, the Netherlands and Spain.

Thereafter, he studied costume design at Wimbledon School of Arts in London. Mr Västhed has designed and created dance costumes for various ballet galas and ballet competitions for individual dancers and dance companies, such as The Víctor Ullate Ballet, Compagnie Peter Agardi and Semperoper Ballett. There, he designed the costumes for Aaron S. Watkins full-length productions of The Sleeping Beauty, La Bayadère and Swan Lake.
